I pondered over this piece for quite some time as I wanted to find a an alternative medium and move away from more traditional methods for creating wildlife sculptures. The brief was to make a fox, so how to create and convey the essence of this elusive woodland animal who unlike his suburban cousin is not so easy to spot in the forest. With all this in mind I was sitting in the studio, sketchpad in hand when I looked over at some pieces of mirror used to make the Eagle Pole sculpture and suddenly the whole image instantly formed of a family of foxes secretly walking along close to the public path able to disappear with stealth at the sound of approaching humans. The mirrored images work as both tangible camouflage and as a metaphor for the world that they and we co inhabit with nature and how we all, wild life included adapt to our surroundings.
